Regarding your ideas in lighting, as I asked another part of Toyota to respond previously (but my apologies if somehow the message didn't get through) we love hearing great ideas from innovators, but because we also do our own R&D, we ask that innovators obtain intellectual property (e.g. patent) protection before telling us their ideas, to ensure fair treatment and prevent misunderstandings.
Regarding complexity, you are right that all things being equal, simpler is better. However, it is also important to understand that reliability comes from many things, and sometimes complex systems can also be reliable. As examples, in the natural world, human beings are astonishingly complex yet usually healthy, and in the man-made world, microprocessors are both extraordinarily complex and extraordinarily reliable. Today's vehicles, despite being much more complex than older ones, are also much more reliable.
Regarding electrification - we agree. In fact, by 2030 we expect 70% of our US sales to be electrified vehicles.
